If you have a website with your own domain name, you have registered, or your web designer, web developer, internet marketing consultant or anyone you paid to get your website done must have signed up on many of the Domain Name Registration Companies.
I always get in the mail, yes snail mail, not email, actual real world paper letter mail from the Domain Registry of America. My domain is like going to expired more than 6 months from now and I get a letter saying I can renew my domain already. It looks like a bill, but it is actually not a bill and it does say on the letter it is not a bill and all it is selling is convenience. They say in the letter:
This notice is not a bill, it is rather an easy means of payment should you decide to switch you domain name registration to the Domain Registry of America.
But some people just do not read well, and just look at the numbers, what they need to pay, date due, and just pay thinking they might lose their domain. But of course not everyone does that. Some people actually read the letter also. Once you decide to fill up this form, sign it and place your credit card information, you are actually agreeing to transfer the domain to DROA.
Domain Registry of America ot DROA.com will charge you the following, based on my latest letter from them:
1 year domain transfer and renewal: $30.00
2 years domain transfer and renewal: $50.00
5 years domain transfer and renewal: $95.00
Well companies like NSI and Register.com charges $35.00/year per domain and DROA may seem to be $5 cheaper but they should do their research well. Obviously, they are sending snail mails to people based on their Whois Information and why are they sending these snail mails to everyone? Because domains are very cheap these days. I get my domains from OmniDomain.net which is only $8.88/year. Although you can find some low deal that are sometimes lower than $3, their catch is that is the price only for the first year, and must be bundle with another non-domain service, like hosting for instance.
Why transfer to DROA? They’re too expensive.
