I have a friend who has long been suffering from myopia asked me to help him find the right specialist where he can undergo LASIK eye surgery. He said that his being near-sighted has always been a burden to him and lately, he almost had a serious accident due to it. There was a time at night when he crossed the street all by himself and unknowingly, a speeding car with the headlights off came rushing towards him. Luckily, the driver was fast enough to hit the brakes and he was not ran over by the car.

He was also quite confused on what specific specialist to look for. He asked several people on where he can get LASIK treatment but these people gave him different answers. Some told him to go to an Optician. Others advised him to go to an Optometrist and lastly, some suggested that he check out an Opthalmologist. This is rather a serious issue because for him to get the right treatment, he would need to go to the right specialist. I explained to him that what an Optician does is to simply help patients find the right frame and make some adjustments if necessary to make the frames fit comfortably. An Optometrist on the other hand should be a licensed Doctor of Optometry who passed the state boeard exam and its primary responsibility is to perform annual examinations to patients to test for any visual problems like glaucoma, color perception, depth and the ability to focus and coordinate the eyes. Moreover, an Opthalmologist is the only eye specialist who can perform surgical procedures on the eyes. This eye care professional must be a Doctor of Medicine degree holder, clinically trained and must be knowledgeable on general medicine.

Thus, on my friend’s case, I firmly advised him to go to a reliable Opthalmologist for him to undergo LASIK treatment and correct his myopia.

If you make websites, a web designer, a web developer, and love CSS, listen to this song.

This originally came from boagworld.com and called it A love song about web standards. This song is like a remake of the song “Hands to Heaven” by Breathe way back in the 90’s.

Loading...

Complete Lyrics of Hands to Boag

The supervisor rants. He says “This website’s pants! I want my clicks improved by Friday!”

I hit the URL. It’s like the bowels of hell. God give me strength. It’s just not my day.

So raise your hands to Boag and pray that we can fix this website today.

Tonight I need your CSS, coding in the darkness. From now on no more tables nest; you will meet web standards.

The source code makes me weep. There’s tables fifteen-deep. In Netscape 6 it looks like garbage.

The METAs say this turd was made with MS Word. With every click I find new carnage.

So raise your hands to Boag and pray that we can fix this website today.

Tonight I need your CSS, coding in the darkness. From now on no more tables nest; you will meet web standards.

Tonight I need your CSS, coding in the darkness. From now on no more tables nest; you will meet web standards.

I guess I’ll have to start from scratch - then I can kiss this piece of trash goodbye…

Tonight I need your CSS, coding in the darkness. From now on no more tables nest; you will meet web standards.

Tonight I need your CSS, coding in the darkness. From now on no more tables nest; you will meet web standards.

Some of my sites are going up and down Google™ At at current press time, I am down. Way down. But appears to still be in the database. And some of the top results for certain keyphrases this blog use to be on top for are not that related to the topic while my topics are even more relevant.

Although I was not able to get into Google™ Analytics initial free beta offering, the data given in Google™ Sitemap is still powered by Google™ Analytics. And my Google™ Sitemap tells me my top queries and I still seem to rank high according to their top query reports. But searching them on various Google™ Data Centers, my site is very down the rankings, even on the Google™ Big Daddy Data Centers.

Another interesting point is all my Page Rank (PR) is nearly all zero on every Google™ Data Center! (as of current press time) But for some reason, the real live PR plays at 4 or 5. And the toolbar PR takes like 3 months to get updated. A friend of mine Mike Lopez has also shared the same observation on rankings with his own blog.

Todd and Greg, famous SEO experts did mention on what they have been talking about at the recent NY SES Convention, that still expect the erratic behavior of Google™ in the coming days.

Comment spam keeps on increasing, especially in blogs like these. Comment spammers usually use softwares that crawl the web looking for websites that have comment forms and uses some script to fill up the forms and posting them with some link going back to the website of who ever launched the comment spamming software.

A common comment spam I have been seeing is:

I read over your blog, and i found it inquisitive, you may find My Blog interesting.

Where the text My Blog is linked to their website and may include another line after that may also include a link. People are doing this mainly for two purposes.

Promoting their blog, the more blogs with their link will invite them to go to there blog that may be promoting a product or service where they could possibly earn extra income.

Making more incoming links going to their website, which is one of the Search Engine Optimization techniques to increase rankings in Search Engine Results. The reason why search engines do this is because they believe that if more people link to you, the more credible you are. But it does not really work that way 100%, but that is another topic I will tackle on another posting.

This blog is powered by Wordpress and one way to keep the comments nice and clean, I used the Captcha plugin. Captcha means Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. Although there are simple ways of implementing this like just having text displayed on a image where computers cannot normally read it unless some good OCR (Object Character Recognition) software is used. And if the text is kind of twisted, characters turned, variying in colors, using some weird font, even OCR softwares will have a hard time reading the text.

I found the captcha plugin for Wordpress from the blog of El Rincón de Boriel and the plugin works perfectly. If you are running Wordpress and is looking for an excellent way to combat crawling comment spam bots, I like this Wordpress Captcha plugin. But note, this does not prevent manual comment spamming, just have your comments moderated before posting. And just delete them if a manual spam was done.
More about Captcha technology here.

I started blogging with my first post on May 25, 2004 on my own personal blog. But that blog is just full of crappy stuff. Some good stuff, but also with the personal public problems problems of everyday living for me. Although I want to talk much about the web, the internet and business, which I also do on my personal blog, the topics there are just so diversified already. Who would want to read sh*t about my life? Well my personal blog still serves it’s purpose which is a way me and my family get updated with what’s happening.

Now I am starting this blog, this will be mainly all about websites, how businesses can use the internet well so they can get promoted online that can be worked out into potential sales. I am not saying I am the expert in this field, there are many experts out there and all I will share is what I know. Some topics may be very specific to the level of how to make websites, to other topics on how to market a website, how to maintain and all other stuff, latest trends and personal predictions. I may also include other productivity tools businesses can use even if it does not use the web, but is still technology related where I will post my views on the subject matter.

I just started it and this is my first post which is nothing useful right now. I will come up with new articles soon and I home you come back again. C ‘ya!
