If you are unfamiliar with Google’s Sitemap tool for webmasters, you may visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/. This is an XML based website submission to Google. This was created to help guide Google in indexing your site. This does not necessarily give you any higher ranking in search engine results. All this does is it helps Google in adding your website on their database of billions webpages. Using this also does not promise the website owner your site will be indexed right away, or even indexed at all. But if your site does get indexed by Google using these sitemaps, it helps a lot and you get generated reports on the Google Sitemap page on when the site was visited, tops keyword queries and other essential stuff. Read the Q&A of Search Engine Watch with Google Engineering Director and Technical Lead of the Google Sitemap project, Shiva Shivakumar.
If you have gone through the article above, then most probably you know what these Google Sitemaps are all about. This is nothing but an xml file, which is nothing but a text file actually with the .xml extention. But it is well-formed in a way that it should be created in a very strict format. Here is a sample Google Sitemap I mannually made for a client offering Termite Control, Termite Prevention and Termite Treatment company. View the example xml file by clicking here. If you know HTML by heart, then Google Sitemaps is totally not hard to do. It is very easy to follow the rules they set. The only hard thing is updating the file or creating it if your website has tons of pages. If you have a blog too, that you often update, making a sitemap would be very time consuming to do manually.
The blog software I use is Wordpress and I like Wordpress as a blog software. Right now i am using the latest version of Wordpress and is hosted on YDS Web Solution that I like because of the custom hosting plans.
